The Santa Barbara Sheriff's Department will be adding two new deputies after an agreement with the Santa Ynez Chumash Indians.
The deputies and two patrol cars will be paid for by the tribe at a cost of about $400,000.
The agreement was announced at the board of supervisors meeting on Tuesday.
The new patrol comes as county Sheriff Bill Brown and Supervisor Doreen Farr drop an appeal against the tribe's current liquor operations at the casino and newly opened high-rise hotel.
Trial Chairman Kenneth Kahn worked out the compromise prior to a special hearing on the alcohol license.
The new patrol deputies will be used mainly at the reservation property and also for alcohol safety programs in the area.
They can respond when needed elsewhere in the Santa Ynez Valley under the agreement.
