Scott Whitney named Oxnard's new police chief

A longtime member of a police department in Ventura County who traded in his uniform for a tie is going to need that uniform again.

Scott Whitney will become the City of Oxnard’s new chief September 16th.

Whitney served in the Oxnard Police Department for 25 years, including nine years as Assistant Police Chief. His management skills led to his promotion to Acting City Manager in 2014, and he was later made an Assistant City Manager.

He’ll fill the vacancy created by the departure of Jeri Williams, who has been named Police Chief for the City of Phoenix. Williams was Oxnard’s first female police chief, heading the agency for five years. She was known for her community policing efforts, and efforts to keep the crime down while dealing with a shrinking budget.
