Spill Forces Evacuation Of South Coast Medical Building

A spill involving a chemical used for cancer chemotherapy forced the evacuation of a medical building in Ventura County, and sent three people to a hospital emergency room.

The accident happened just after four p.m. Thursday at an outpatient facility for the Ventura County Medical Center. It’s on the 3200 block of Loma Vista Road in Ventura. Initially, the building’s fifth floor was evacuated, but because of the smell the whole building was eventually cleared.

A hazmat team contained the spill to a two by two foot area, and cleanup experts were called in to deal with cleanup. The chemical was reported to be non-radioactive in nature. 52 employees and patients went through a triage process, with three people eventually being taken to a hospital emergency room for further evaluation, and treatment.
